The stone slab of Baska

present copy in the Abbey of Lucia SaintThe stone slab of Baska,the first document written in Croatian recorded on the stone,has been discovered in the church of St. Lucia, built up towards the end of century IX. The stone was written in old language- with glagolic alphabet. It describes a gift of king Zvonimir to the church of st. Lucija with all the list of witnesses. The stone stab is dated 1100. This stone stab is important because it confirms the existance of Croatia in early years. The original is keeping in Acadamy of Arts in Zagreb, but on the same place where it was found there is a reproduction. On the island of Krk you can find many small shops that sells small reproductions of it as souvenirs.

The altar, that it remembers a iconostasi bizantina, has conserved its gotica frame and comes guarded in the episcopal palace to Krk (Waking).
